As if Xometry’s Instant Quote Engine and integrated instant quoting add-in for SOLIDWORKS weren’t enough, the rascals buckin’ the manufacturing trends at Xometry have introduced a finishing service to completely centralize your design-to-manufacturing needs.

How does this help you? Ok, so you have a design, and parts in that design, that needs to be manufactured. From Xometry, you can source and secure manufacturing, and now, source and secure finishing. Typically, these processes don’t all happen in one place, but Xometry is making that happen. Plus, if you have a manufacturing vendor you just adore and source a finishing vendor worthy of high fives, you can connect them on the Xometry platform to put the power of part finishing on auto-pilot.

What finishing services can you have quoted?

  • Type II Anodizing
  • Type III Anodizing
  • Chem Film
  • Heat Treatment
  • Conversion & Pretreatments
  • Mechanical Finishing
  • Adhesives & Coatings
  • Metal Plating
  • Painting & Marking
  • Military Spec Coatings
  • Masking
  • Surface Preparation
  • Testing

And this is on top of the access to manufacturing they already provide for CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, and loads of additive manufacturing capabilities.

Yes, all these manufacturing/RFQ bits are completely possible in companies today (and perhaps already done where you work), but they’re bits that have been spread out in all sorts of inefficient directions. Xometry is simply introducing a consolidated, efficient approach to getting your parts DONE. It’s something manufacturing has needed for a long time. I think I’m even more surprised it hasn’t happened until now.

One thing Xometry does need with this addition (and suspect it’s coming) is a link between parts I’ve already uploaded for manufacturing RFQ and the finishing RFQ. Currently, I need to upload the model to have each quoted. Connect those or, even better, put my initial upload in a manufacturing workflow that visually shows what stage my part is at, who’s working it, and how long until it’s done. Boom.
