Employer Connect Programme

Connect and network with Wellington employers to get an understanding of what it’s like in New Zealand workplaces

As the saying goes, it’s not always what you know, but who you know. But – it’s not always easy to network with local employers right!? This is where the Employer Connect programme will help you.

Delivered over several sessions over 5 weeks, Employer Connect is a safe and accessible way for graduating international students to meet employers and get started on interacting with professionals in the Wellington workplace.

How it works

Graduating students first register via the registration form, where they will indicate three areas of interest within an organisation. Registrations will be open in April for the first programme of 2022.

From there they will be allocated to a group that will connect students with employees from an organisation, receive information about that organisation and what to prepare for before they go.

The Study in Wellington team will facilitate meetings between these small groups of graduating international students and employees, which are more of a social networking opportunity around a morning tea or afternoon tea hosted at the organisation’s workplace.

How did past employers and international students find the programme?

“The Employer Connect program was like finding a hidden gem. We went into it thinking we’d offer some useful career advice to students, but it ended up being a valuable way for us to network with recent graduates whose knowledge and interests were specific to our business needs. A huge thank you to the friendly and experienced people who worked behind the scenes to make it all happen.”

The event was incredibly well organised, they used a facilitative approach to ensure it was a valuable experience for both the students and our people. We’d love to be involved again future”.

"The Employer Connect Session we hosted at the Wellington Chamber of Commerce exceeded expectations hugely. The staff members who took part walked away raving about how great the session was and how much value we all gained from taking part. It was great to meet a group of enthusiastic international students and learn about their experiences living and studying in New Zealand. We would have no hesitation in taking part again in the future."

I met other international students and have built a great network with employers. I have also landed a part-time job at a digital production company through the Employer Connect Programme
